How to Link a Remote Desktop User to an Already Existing Domain User

In this tutorial, you will learn how to link a remote desktop user to a domain user.

Every company has its own way of working, but many system administrators prefer to keep their tasks and controls as centralised as possible. Obviously, this makes system administration much simpler, but there are also security-related reasons why this is desirable, particularly when it comes to user management.

Because of this, the Jotelulu platform is designed to make it easier to link remote desktop users to an organisation’s domain users.

How to map a remote desktop user to a domain user?

Before you begin

To successfully complete this tutorial, you will need:

Step 1. Open the Users section from the Remote Desktop subscription page.

On the main dashboard, click on the top of the Remote Desktop card (1).

Step 1. Open the Remote Desktop subscription page from the main dashboard
Step 1. Open the Remote Desktop subscription page from the main dashboard

Next, you will need to open the Users section. You can do this by either clicking on Users in the left-hand menu (2) or by clicking on the Users icon on the Summary page (3).

Step 2. Link a remote desktop user with a domain user

Once in the Users section, you will see a list of your organisation’s remote desktop users. Find the desired user from the list and click on the corresponding three dots to the right (4). Select Edit (5) from the drop-down menu that appears.

Step 2. Choose the user whose domain access you wish to change
Step 2. Choose the user whose domain access you wish to change

Once you have opened the user’s profile, you will see the words “Server User” to the right of their name. Click on the magnifying glass (6) to set whether this user will access the service through their Jotelulu login or through an existing domain user login.

Step 2. Click on the magnifying glass to select a user type
Step 2. Click on the magnifying glass to select a user type

After clicking on the magnifying glass, a window will appear allowing you to choose a user type, which is set to “Jotelulu User” by default. The different user types are defined as follows:

  • Jotelulu User: This is the default user type for all remote desktop users created on the platform.
  • Already Existing Local User:  You may want to import a machine from an already existing server. In this case, you may also want to reuse this machine and make it compatible with the Jotelulu platform.
  • Domain User: This is the option to choose if you have deployed a remote desktop service with a virtual machine but want to add users to an already existing domain. Since this is the subject of this tutorial, click on this option (7).

Step 2. Select Domain User
Step 2. Select Domain User

A window will now appear asking for the domain user’s login details in order to link them to the Jotelulu user (8). If you are linking to a domain user, it is important to remember to specify the domain name. Once you have entered the existing user’s login, click Save (9).

Step 2. Enter the domain user’s login and click Save
Step 2. Enter the domain user’s login and click Save

Once saved, the platform will confirm the changes and you will be able to return to the Users section to repeat the process for other remote desktop users.

Summary:

At Jotelulu, we understand that many organisations like to manage their users through their own down. In this tutorial, you have learnt how to quickly link a Jotelulu remote desktop user to your organisation’s own domain.

CAUTIONOnce you have linked a remote desktop user to a domain user, the platform will no longer be able to manage and synchronise user passwords. From this point onwards, any changes to user passwords will need to be made through the domain server.

We hope that this tutorial has been useful for you. If you have any questions, please write to us at platform@jotelulu.com and we will be happy to help.

We make the difficult easy

Existing Disaster Recovery tools often require advanced knowledge to manage, demanding expertise that is difficult to acquire.

Jotelulu’s Disaster Recovery aims to make the difficult easy and offers a very simple deployment based on a three-step configuration:

Origin (Primary Site)
Determine the origin location of the subscription on which the Disaster Recovery service will be established.

Destination (Recovery Site)
Set the destination location (availability zone) where you want the Recovery Site to be deployed.

Replication characteristics
Specify the data related to the number of copies to be kept and the frequency at which the replication will be performed.
