In this tutorial, you will learn how to link a remote desktop user to a domain user.
Every company has its own way of working, but many system administrators prefer to keep their tasks and controls as centralised as possible. Obviously, this makes system administration much simpler, but there are also security-related reasons why this is desirable, particularly when it comes to user management.
Because of this, the Jotelulu platform is designed to make it easier to link remote desktop users to an organisation’s domain users.
How to map a remote desktop user to a domain user?
Before you begin
To successfully complete this tutorial, you will need:
- To have subscribed to the remote desktop service and have registered remote desktop users on the platform.
- To have previously linked the remote desktop server to your organisation’s domain.
Step 1. Open the Users section from the Remote Desktop subscription page.
On the main dashboard, click on the top of the Remote Desktop card (1).
Next, you will need to open the Users section. You can do this by either clicking on Users in the left-hand menu (2) or by clicking on the Users icon on the Summary page (3).
Step 2. Link a remote desktop user with a domain user
Once in the Users section, you will see a list of your organisation’s remote desktop users. Find the desired user from the list and click on the corresponding three dots to the right (4). Select Edit (5) from the drop-down menu that appears.
Once you have opened the user’s profile, you will see the words “Server User” to the right of their name. Click on the magnifying glass (6) to set whether this user will access the service through their Jotelulu login or through an existing domain user login.
After clicking on the magnifying glass, a window will appear allowing you to choose a user type, which is set to “Jotelulu User” by default. The different user types are defined as follows:
- Jotelulu User: This is the default user type for all remote desktop users created on the platform.
- Already Existing Local User: You may want to import a machine from an already existing server. In this case, you may also want to reuse this machine and make it compatible with the Jotelulu platform.
- Domain User: This is the option to choose if you have deployed a remote desktop service with a virtual machine but want to add users to an already existing domain. Since this is the subject of this tutorial, click on this option (7).
A window will now appear asking for the domain user’s login details in order to link them to the Jotelulu user (8). If you are linking to a domain user, it is important to remember to specify the domain name. Once you have entered the existing user’s login, click Save (9).

CAUTION: Once you have linked a remote desktop user to a domain user, the platform will no longer be able to manage and synchronise user passwords. From this point onwards, any changes to user passwords will need to be made through the domain server.
